Setting up a new Penny Bank
- Plug in your Penny Bank.
- On your phone, open Settings > Wi‑Fi and join PennyBank-Setup.
- A page opens. Choose your home WiFi and enter its password.
- When the device shows a pairing code, open the app, tap Add a Penny Bank, and enter the code.
My Penny Bank says offline
- Check that it's plugged in and in range of your WiFi.
- If your WiFi changed (new router or password), update it: open Settings from the bank in the app and tap Update WiFi, or hold the device's screen for 10 seconds and tap Change WiFi. Then join PennyBank-Setup in your phone's WiFi settings.
- Give it a couple of minutes. The app marks a device offline after about 4 minutes without hearing from it.
Changing the WiFi network
- In the app, open the bank, tap the gear, then Update WiFi and answer Yes.
- On your phone, open Settings > Wi‑Fi and join PennyBank-Setup.
- Choose your WiFi from the page that opens.
Deposits aren't showing up
- Make sure your phone's NFC is on, open the deposit screen in the app, and tap your phone to your Penny Bank.
- Check that the device shows as online. Pull down on the Home screen to refresh.
Starting over with a Penny Bank ("factory reset")
On the device, hold the screen for 10 seconds, tap Set up as new, then confirm. The device forgets its WiFi and returns to its setup screen. This can only be done on the device itself.
Removing a bank from my account
Open the bank's Settings and tap Disconnect "bank name" from my account. Other people who share the bank keep it.
Deleting my account
Open the menu, choose My account, then Delete my account. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what is deleted.
Software updates
Your Penny Bank updates itself over WiFi when you aren't using it, and shows an "Updating" screen with a progress bar. Please don't unplug it while it updates.
